Well Hi.

Post by Angus »

Hello!

Calix spammed my emails so I thought I would drop by and say hello.

Very cool to see everyone working away on something, I actually re-subbed to UO last month, but i'm about to quit again because literally no one I know plays and meeting new people is boring.

How are you all splitting the coding responsabilities? Just going for it? Is there a staging area up at the moment?

Cool stuff though gents, anything I can do let me know (Unless it's coding, i'm a Producer in the Games Industry :P)

Hey Angus, great to see you posting. The project isn't really that serious if you ask me (don't tell clx) but it's fun in that it gives us an excuse to talk uo. Coding is mostly done by Joe, ingo or myself, but its all casual. I haven't looked at it for months before this week!

Welcome back mate. Wondered what happened to you. Sounds like you're living the dream!

I doubt we'll ever get a shard going with a sufficient player base to make it successful - at least not while 'real' UO is still going - but who knows? We won't have trouble funding or running it - it's literally just a case of finding and retaining enough players to make it work. I think we're all fully aware that UO is only fun when the community is good.

In theory this era we're replicating does have potential to attract the players - thousands of people loved the big harrower/spawn wars anf p25 PvP - most shards were really active during this period. There's no competition out there as far as I'm aware. All other shards are either free versions of OSI UO, or imitating era's before AOS. It'd take a massive a

Oh and I had the shard up and running for a good 3 months up to Christmas, but then had a bit of upheaval in my life(split up with girlfriend, moved house, etc)which has set that back a few months. Moving in to new place on the 14th and will hopefully have shard up for testing pretty much perma from late may. We're in #infernal_covenant on quakenet IRC still.

I'm living the dream when it's all cake and free bars, the dream quickly dies when you're in the office at 9pm re-wording text from your tutorial or gathering analytics data

One thing I will boast about after reading some of our old topics, I got to work on the Championship Manager series, which was really cool... oh, and depressing because it's so shit compared to Football Manager :P

Oh that old gem, still, I think it could be done. I see IPY adverts on Facebook now and again which is very cool ^_^

As I said I have no coding skills, bar IF statements, so i'm really no use but if / when the version goes up i'll of course check it out. Oh, and i'll give feedback whenever I can, was thinking of interesting ways to re-work Forensic Eval last night ;)

Keep up the good work guys, I may check our IRC later however in truth I probably should avoid all forms of UO posting, nostalgia is bad, k?
