How about some NPC's that need escorting from lower levels of dungeons? Good gold, high risk. Good alternative money maker for newer players.

I like it. Would the NPC be invulnerable or not ? If not would lead to griefing from blues and reds (obviously) alike, if the rewards were worth it though would make it attractive but open to farming out of hours ?

Could the NPC also pile in on mobs (not players) if agro'ed ?

Yeah this was always good fun when you had no money to buy gear to kill stuff! Slow but adds an element to the game, and RPers (are there even any left) would probably love it.

I'd just want them @ bottom of dungeons rather than in towns - or at least the ones in dungeons should offer much higher rewards for being escorted successfully.
