PS3 Troubles

Post by Angus »

Alright guys,

Par Zim im unsure if any of you chaps have a PS3, however its fucking me off so it will cause no harm to ask.

I had a 40gb PS3. I mainly use it for blu-ray and have it connected to my 32" HD LG TV. Ive got it set up through a own brand GAME HDMI cable, the same one runs on my xbox 360 and has no problems.

Now, after watching a few films, my screen goes blank, I can hear, but I cant see. I check online to see the problem and find out it happens. So, I follow the instructions - re-set my PS3, set up the component cable and i get my picture back. I go through the motions of re-setting up my HDMI and still nothing. A further site i found tells me to power down, unplug and leave for a few hours. I leave it over night and the next day...fixed. npnp.

Few weeks later happens again. This time no fix. I try my 360 HDMI cable and still nothing, my PS3 HDMI cable however works on my 360. I decide ive had enough and take it into work, and i manage to swap it, under warranty, for a 80gb PS3 (result!). I bring that home, set it up, watch Hancock and done. Today I turn it on (a whole 24 hours later!) and bamn, no display. Its happened again.

Any ideas? Ive heard it could be my cheap HDMI cable. Is this true?

I just cant be fucked with it, its really annoying.

It's a common problem, but it's pretty easy to fix.

Buy a 360.

Buy a Sony hdmi cable (made for the ps3)?

Probably a bit more expensive than third party, but might help.

I've heard it could be due to a cheap hdmi cable.
Jack (Bauer) and Jill went up the hill. Only Jack came down. Jill was a fucking terrorist.

I love how you exchanged the whole PS3 when all you needed was a new HDMI cable.

Or a refund.

Obviously isn't the PS3 so hdmi cable is next yes, I've noticed the PS3 is very fussy with hdmi. For example, I've got a 4 way hdmi switch box, and all my equipment including Sky HD, Xbox 360 and HD-DVD player work through it, but the PS3 doesn't. So I've got that plugged into its own hdmi input with a branded lead.

@ Fatal - I work in GAME so exchanging the PS3, for a bigger model no less, was the easiest option.

@ Zim - Right aye thats what ive came to think, i didnt consider the cable as the problem at first as it worked in my 360 no problem, so ill hopefully pick up a branded HDMI cable today, any advice on which kind or just any high speed HDMI?

I'm using a belkin, plenty of cheap but branded ones on Amazon, even the Sony lead doesn't cost that much on there.

The postage on my HDMI lead cost more than the lead itself.
