Desktop PC
I'm such a big spender.
Along with my TV, wanna get a nice PC to go with it, to fully pimp out my palace.
I know you all think Japan is electronics heaven, and it is in that it has loads, but prices aren't actually that good. Plus, with the yen raping most currencies at the moment, it's actually better for me to buy online from ebay or somewhere and pay for the shipping to japland.
A quick search on ebay revealed http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/AMD-PHENOM-II-X4- ... 5350wt_901
and lots like it.
I honestly have no idea whats good these days, you guysh need to let me know!

Re: Desktop PC
Check toms hardware for of kit and pricing comparisons. I don't know much about desktop hardware at the moment, I generally pay no attention until I want to upgrade, go do some research, and promptly forget about it all until next time...
Re: Desktop PC
What Benn said. BUT you are in luckz. I'm buying a new one before VAT goes up(January?) so I shall start researching shortly!
Re: Desktop PC

Sorry, our budget is limited to something like slamers annual income,(£900+ beer) not lifetime earnings (£10000 + lung and liver cancer)

Re: Desktop PC
Calix is such a wise businessman.
I'm completely out of touch at the moment, havent upgraded my PC for nearly two years.
Core i7s seem to be the best processors available right now and core i5 a good compromise.

Re: Desktop PC
After a bit of looking around i'm actually considering just upgrading mine..
It's done grenadier service, it's 4 years old this month, finally starting to show it's age now though. Has only had GPU upgrade in all that time.
Seems as all I really want a new PC for is to run: http://www.heroesofstalingrad.com/ i'm not going to be spending stupid money anyway. Already got a decent PSU and case, and i'm thinking i'm maybe ok with current processor.
atm it's:
Core 2 Duo E6600
2gig pc-2 800mhz
Radeon 4870(I think, can you remember which one we bought Oz?)
I'm thinking another 2 1 gig gig ram sticks(or replacement with 2x 2 gig sticks) + another graphics card upgrade will probably do the job for me. Ram prices are hilariously low now.

Re: Desktop PC
Ram ftw. Was reading about good ways to utilise lots of ram.
Apparently you can assign ram to do certain tasks, like taking over for the hd in some circumstances. Ofc writing to ram is faster than to HD so it speeds things up a bit.
Amazing what you can learn given enough time and nothing to do at work.

Re: Desktop PC
Memory is relatively cheap these days, get at leas 4Gb. More is always better, but I'd definately suggest not going below 4.

Re: Desktop PC
pc's are dead cheap now, i put together this for around 400 quid...
Operating System Microsoft Windows Vista Home Edition 6.0.6002 (WinVista Beta)
CPUID CPU Name Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Quad CPU Q8200 @ 2.33GHz
System Memory 8192 MB
Video Adapter GeForce GTX 460
Total Size HD 465.8 GB (268.6 GB free)
had to skimp on the processor, id have prefered a faster speed, but with 8 gig ram and the gtx 460, system is running at <40c on stuff like F1 2010 in full graphics mode, nice n smooth(most demanding game i have i think...) and running about 30 leagues super quick on FM2011
this was about 6 months ago~/ GTX460 bout 2 months ago cuz my 8800GT diedz
