Guild Wars 2

Update 3: Gamescom video of the smaller PvP map
Update 2: Some info/video on one of the smaller PvP maps

Capture points

Both teams will fight to control the 3 capture points:

The Windmill in the north
The Clocktower in the middle
The Mansion in the south

Every two seconds, each team will be awarded one point for every capture point under their control. By keeping control of these areas—and preventing your opponents from taking them—you will increase your score while denying the other team points. The game will end when a team reaches 500 points.

Team bases

The red team will spawn in the west base, and the blue team will spawn in the east base. This is where you will begin the game and—if you aren’t resurrected by an ally—where you will respawn after being killed.

Trebuchet

All PvP maps in Guild Wars 2 will feature what we call “secondary mechanics.” For the Battle of Kyhlo, the secondary mechanic is the trebuchet. Each team will have a treb that can be used to bombard enemies anywhere on the map—including the three capture points. The trebuchet attacks will cover a lot of ground and knock enemies back, so learning to use them well can be instrumental in winning a game. Each team’s treb can be destroyed by the opposition, and when this happens, a repair kit for the corresponding trebuchet will spawn.

Repair kits

If your team’s treb is destroyed, you can retrieve the repair kit, carry it back to the trebuchet, and use it to get the weapon working again. You can’t destroy or interact with the other team’s repair kit, but you’ll want to harass any foes carrying a repair kit back to their trebuchet. Weapons and skills are disabled for any player carrying a repair kit, so you’ll also want to protect the person carrying your team’s repair kit.

Update 1: Some stuff leaking about WvWvW (world vs world vs world) PvP
Image
the above screenshot is basically part of the center map in WvWvW. The overall game will take place on 4 "maps" that people are moving between. There is the central map, then three outer "Home" maps.

What is shown in that screenshot is only part of the central map. There is basically a fog of war on areas not explored by the player, and most of the map wasn't explored by the player at that point...
Image

Central Map quick sketch

- Red dot = World Portal that brings you to the central map.
I assume it cannot be used when it's captured by an enemy. But the enemy can't use it of course.

Red lines = Small mountains to force people in a direction. Balance reasons?

Yellow Line = Path from portal to the central keep.

Pink = Explorable area full with mines, farms, towers etc.
Image

For reference of scale, if it is using the same proportions that the previous maps have been using, then Castle Bailey is roughly the same size as Lion's Arch or Ironforge(WoW), both of which are pretty large.

- There are three teams; Blue, Red and Green
- The castle is in the centre of the map. To the north of the castle, but not visible on the released screenshot, is the Red team's base
- In order to see the darkened areas on the map, you must explore those areas
- Each team has access to a waypoint to their home base and to other significant areas of the map when you take control of them. For example the keep and castle should provide a waypoint once captured
- Supplies are used to make siege weapons. Helping out the NPCs at the Lumber and Mine camps will provide your team with these supplies
- There are small NPC towns located on the map. Helping them will enable them to aid your team. For example they will attack the enemy keeps, mines etc.

We also don't know that this is the entire central map... There may be more space extending out beyond the portals with other strategic points.

It also may be a reduced scale map for use at upcoming Conventions or press events(obviously, having a map designed for thousands that can only be played by hundreds wouldn't work). We don't really have any information or context given that this is a leak.

Original Post:
While the game is still a ways out (2012), I figured I'd share this in case someone hasn't really kept up with what ArenaNet are aiming to do with the game.

The post is quite a lengthy read on the game's features and so on, but fairly well put together so consider checking it out.

Didn't update the first post.

ArenaNet updated their blog though, the game is now confirmed for 2012 release with an open/wide beta in march and april.

That small scale pvp / arena video was good but I don't see anything particularly new that hasn't been done already in other games?
I'm assuming the main game will be the real draw.
Also lol @ amount of health those characters have.
