New Laptop

Post by Padaxus »

Hey

I thinking of getting a new laptop for work and mostly games.

I want it to play all modern games and have some element of future proofing. anyone have any recomendations, not sure on budget so will see to that at a later date.

Cheers

Dell Outlet can be your friend if you are patient and get lucky.
They add new stock approximately 14:15 - 14:30 daily and rumour has it it is also done 02:15 to 02:30 in the morning too.

I've procured 3 or 4 machines from there over the past few years - some proper bargains. They are supposed to be refurbished but have all looked brand new to me.
What you would likely want are the alienware laptops.

Click this and go down to the processor section on the left and select i5 and i7 only.
http://outlet.euro.dell.com/Online/Inve ... l=en&s=dfh

If that link doesn't work for you then go here http://www.dell.com/uk/dfh/p/ and manually navigate to the outlet laptops section. Remember, there are always ebay sellers waiting for machines so grab what you can that looks likely as soon as it appears at the times above and then you have 15 minutes to decide before it is auto-removed from basket.

While this is not for gaming, but useful as a price-saving reference point, last week I ordered an Inspiron 15z Ultrabook with an i5 processor and an SSD boot drive (500gb sata main drive) LED tru-life screen - delivered for under £350. Usual value is probably over £600.

Obviously you may be waiting for some time to find the ideal gaming laptop as Dell don't always release the same kinds of machines onto the Outlet every day and their pricing is inconsistent, not to mention all the eBay resellers you have to fight against. But if you have time and money is an issue then this is the way to go.

Otherwise not sure really, try http://www.meshcomputers.com/ or http://www.ebuyer.com/store/Computer/cat/Gaming-Laptops
But expect to pay well over a grand for any decent gaming laptop, and remember the graphics cards are just as important if not more so than the processor. A good i5 with a high end graphics card is far far better for gaming than an i7 with a mid range graphics card.

Out of curiousity, why a gaming laptop to do two functions? Would you not be better of with a good solid gaming desktop and a tablet for your other stuff? (probably cheaper and more convenient too).

Yes, but these aren't.
They are refurbished allegedly, but almost always means these are customer returns where quite often the device hasn't even been used (change of mind).
I've bought 3 laptops and 1 desktop from here and every one of them was brand new.
You may get unlucky and end up with something that has a slight dent or scratch, but will be barely noticeable.
The discount is pretty massive.
