Probably of no interest whatsoever. I left Stratics

Post by Petra »

But I didn't leave UO - so now I'm doing my own thing learning some .css coding, using simple html and writing guides for uo players here: http://ode-guild.com/uostuff

When you find your access to the email domain has been removed without anyone telling you.
When you're told you are no longer UOSS ME and that 'no one is head of Stratics UO'
When you're told you can carry on writing guides as an editor, but you will no longer admin the wordpress site you designed.
When you're told if you want to post 'news' items you will have to be an editorial assistant.
You kinda get the message that has been geriatrics are no longer needed.

Pretty much. Xena was my rock when things went wrong after Den went into hibernation and before George bought it. He wasn't staff anymore, but he cared enough to help me with the database stuff and php pages. I knew there was trouble ahead when the new 'Editor in Chief' told me she didn't like Xena and couldn't get along with him. When I heard myself described as a 'dictator' and the UO folk as 'elitist' and realised she'd made it so I no longer had the authority to run the UO section as I thought best and was answerable to her I knew it was time to go. What I didn't expect was a whole list of staff followed me out of the door!

Not so good Petra. How are things aside?

Are you still enjoying UO as much? The dedication is impressive. We all still reminisce about UO.
No to U

Yup, still playing, still writing for UO folk. I just uploaded some pages on housing.
Some of the folk who left have a guild site, they're mostly playing SotA now, but they still have UO accounts too. They gave me a corner, link further up.
When I put new pages on I post on my facebook page. Only 38 likes on there, but over 2000 on the index page counter on the site :D

I don't know to be honest. I looked at the price of the houses and decided it wasn't for me. I'm still happy playing UO, and I'm not sure our PCs could run anything more modern anyway.

Hey Petra :)

Sorry to hear about Stratics, I know you put a lot into it over the years.

You should keep an eye on shards online if you're not already, think it's going to be pretty good.

Now that you'll have a load of free time I hope Terry's not suffering too much !

All things come to an end, and it was never really Stratics, it was UO that I cared about - so I found another way to help UO players, and I'm free to experiment with coding in a way the wordpress cms of Stratics wouldn't allow - also I'm not constrained to maintain past formats when updating.
I've made maps with transparent overlays so mouse-out removes all the labels, letting you see the map details underneath them. I've made a mapped image for virtues where you can click on the virtue icons like you can in game. I've put narrow lists into columns and some text blocks into boxes. I'm having fun with .css.

quite a few, yes. You know that EA don't manage it directly now? The DAoC and UO devs got together and made a company, Broadsword, and they do it now. EA still own it though.
pvp is pretty much dominated by folks using 'speeder' programs and other cheats I'm afraid. In real skill they couldn't hold a candle to I-C, Senji and Zole would walk all over them. The biggest pk group on Europa are a guild called PRO.
At one stage the circulating story about them was they raided a pvm group's champ and then had to give it back cos they couldn't kill the champ :D. Three of them attacked Terry's Sam O'Rye character a while back, and couldn't kill him :D

sure, if you think you can stand it.
On Europa:
Mine - Petra Fyde: Swordswoman, Runlykell: Crafter, Barry Coodah: fisherman, Joy Nerry:Carpenter, Xorartep (Blame this one on Noxin, she was supposed to be a Lich, so needed a weird name - till you read it backwards): thief, Heidi Ninfel: stealth shepherd, Piper Lullabie: peace tamer, Clarrie Fyde: mage: May Kinoles: treasure hunter. Kirsten Pheable: bard mage
Terry's
Terry Fyde, Dan D Fyde: crafter, Dai Aard: Welsh archer, Sam O'Rye: Irish Samurai, Gnu B Fyde: Tamer, Nick Delute: thief, Trellys: fencer, Phil De Beat: Bard tamer

On Siege:
Mine - Molly Fyde: Crafter, Dee Lishus: Chef/crafter, Marie Nayted: resource gatherer (blame a conversation about beer I was watching in skype for this one)
Terry - Tez T Fyde: mage, Con Jurer, mage tamer.

On Drachs:
Mine - Maude Edleigh: Mystic Mage, Sherri Tryful: cook/crafter
Terry - Beau Stringer: Archer, Will Seekit: Treasure hunter, Penn Scribbler: Scribe, Red Errin: Fisherman, Les Brain: Dexxer, Billy Goatherd: was a tamer, couldn't hack it so he hacks trees instead. Fred Bear: Crafter

Top names.
Do you come up with a name first and then make a character to go with it?

No, character first. 'I want to make a treasure hunter, what can I call her?'
are there any in the list you don't get? need explaining?
