Kids are really really bugging me now to get them a games console.

I don't want to spend a fortune on games, so definately need access to stuffz from interweb.
I notice the xbox360 has lots of stuffz available for download, but I have no idea how to go about 'modding' or 'chipping' one.

Any guides around on the subject ? or should I just go and buy a pre-chipped one from somewhere ?

Once the console is chipped/modded, do I just simply download games, burn them and stick them into the console ? or do you have to go through another gay long winded process to get games to work too ?

I don't know a great deal about modding the 360 but I do know it is reasonably difficult and Microsoft are also rumoured to have a patch in the works that will cripple the live capabilities of any modded machines (ie can only use them offline).

The early 360s (I believe newer ones currently do not have available mods) were split between Toshiba and Samsung drives. Only the Samsung ones were moddable and involved flashing the firmware somehow. There are guides around but I don't have any links so just do a search.

Having said all that, earlier 360 games are already bloody cheap and basically you'd be a fucking cunt to be too tight to buy any of those. If you really can't afford games costing £14.99 to £20 new then you shouldn't be buying the console anyway.

Here are some legitimate links to current 360 bargains:

This is the best console deal currently available, I'm going to buy myself a second 360 for my house in Austria from this place:

http://www.gamestation.co.uk/discountad ... ountid=108

Basically you get Xbox Live arcade which includes some of the better arcade titles, the excellent racer PGR3 and an extra wireless controller. You also get the new wrestling game which doesnt interest me but is still apparently decent. On top of that you get to choose any extra game and it all comes in at £310. No joke you could walk into a high street shop like Dixons and pay something like £465 for the equivalent so yeah it's a bargain.

Keep an eye on the Play 360 top sellers list:

http://www.play.com/Games/Xbox360/NAVTS ... llers.html

They are constantly lowering prices on games and at the moment have several of the top end 360 games from £15-£25 which is a bargain.

Right cant be bothered to write anymore.

@ Zim.

That deal you linked to, there is also "alternatives" at "Game".

You can get the same deal almost exactly, apart from par Smackdown, you can also choose either Call of Duty 3, or Pro Evo 6 as your game, but sadly you cannot pick "any game" you want, the deal is with Gears of War.

Just so you know though :)
