I'll be honest
Some of these questions are retarded
Who wrote the test?
And how much is the position for?

NHS agenda for change Band 5 (approx £23k starting salary).
Which questions are retarded, and why ? - bear in mind some are deliberately open ended to see how broad an answer we can get.

Agreed with Benn, it is retarded but that doesn't surprise me given it's from the civil service.

You'll need to elaborate; what aspects of the tests are retarded ?

Getting the right person who fits into the team is a million times more important than someone who can answer a load of technical questions imo
You can learn mad IT skillz on the job .. you can't teach someone not to be a wanker...

When I get a test for a job, one of the first things I do is pop on over to a forum full of retards who hate me for a game that was due out 5 years ago and ask their opinion.
It's just common sense.

Questions seem pretty random as well. Uzik seems to sum it up pretty well on those forums.

I'm not the one taking the test.
An internet forum that has over 50k registered posters is bound to have a fair number of IT professionals somewhere within the cesspit who can give me the input that I am looking for.
The SA forums would have been my first choice, but I'm scared of rude goons

I agree with you, which is why there is no indication given anywhere that this test is the only thing determining if the interviewee gets the job.

SA has 114k registered users, not all would be rude. Might be worth a shot.

What excactly is it what you are seeking?
I agree with Benn, some of the questions are misleading or simply outdated, if not "retarded" in a technical sense (VNC vs RDP, OSI layers, etc...)
The one POST (power-on self-test) beep question is retarded economically because the diagnose&repair attempt would probably cost more than a new order from D+ll ...

Our company requires other experience such as
Citrix, VMWare, Backup Exec/live State, Anti-Virus knowledge.. etc...
You looking for any of that?
I am an uni grad with 2 years IT experience. I can answer everyone of those questions without any problem. I think that is the basic 2nd level support standard.
I would definetly look for someone with a general understanding over a wide areas of technologies.. and more importantly someone who is keen to learn.
