I find that really suprising really, considering the game's similarity to WoW, i'd have expected it to be getting 1 mill+ subscribers. Obviously 250k will still draw them a massive profit, but still, way lower than I expected

It was always advertised as a pvp focused game, so that will always put off a lot of the Wow playerbase.

Also the Wow expansion is out soon and a lot of players probably couldnt be arsed to get involved with a new mmo when shiney new content is just around the corner.

Half a million users have registered to play Mythic's Warhammer Online: Age of Reckoning, according to publisher Electronic Arts.

The figures come after only one week on sale, with EA claiming the title is the fastest-selling MMO of all time.

"In just one week we have a half a million people playing WAR online, and the ranks of Order and Destruction are growing at a record-breaking pace for a new MMORPG," offered Mark Jacobs, co-founder of Mythic Entertainment.

"We spent years working to provide players with the most stable, epic, and polished online world we could, but it is the players that have truly brought the Age of Reckoning to life."

Hardly a big achievement being the fastest selling MMO though.
Seeing as number of people playing that type of game has increased steadily all along, new games are bound to see higher startup numbers than previous ones.

Pay no heed to representatives of the company selling the game when they start blowing steam about how amazing it is.
