To be honest I think its coming out at the right time - Ive read/heard so much that DARKFALL IS RDY TO LAUNCH but I cant blame them for holiding back, Age of Conan and WAR had soo much hype behind them (more so WAR) and despite initial success (i.e 30 day trial period) they just went downhill (WAR is already merging servers...).

WoW expansion came out, and while its not my type of game to play in the long run, the people that do like it, they get exactly what they want. If Darkfall came out now it would start off well and slowly go downhill, however, wait till January alot of folks may get WoW/WAR/Whatever burnout and give Darkfall a try..

I dunno, my opinion. After watching UO try and compete with WoW/EQ/Carebears the TV show its actually fairly refreshing to see an MMO tell everyone to fuck off and it'll be ready when it's ready (all be it they do it in the most retarded fashion)

i think the fact that they havent had a company to actually release the game helped on the 9 years its been since they started developing it.

Maybe if this was true, but promising for it to be in beta a few years ago ect. isn't really a 'when it's done' attitude imo.

Yeah thats why I said they went all about it wrong, I think if they'd said "It'll be ready when it's ready, we're competing with an MMO market that throws out a new WoW-Beater every second week, then fails a month later, we're taking our time" then everyone woulda been like "WELL PLAYED" but because they seemed to lead everyone on a bit its back fired.

I think from a business side alot of it must have been down to timing, if they launched along side WAR/WoW expansion Ive no idea how interested people would have been.

I am hesitant though. There's a desire to go overboard with this idea of them taking their time etc. Gotta be prepared for the reasonable chance that it will suck.

have to agree with oz here. im pretty much execting this game to suck.

but damn, the idea really is so good it makes my panties wet!

Oh right sorry I possibly should have said where I stand on getting the game - I wont be.

It's not that the idea dosent appeal to me, and it owuld be nice to play with you lot if you all got it, however its not UO. And while I possibly need to get over it to me it will still feel like a second rate game, ive tried MMOs since and truthfully most are fun until you realize the freedom of UO isent there.

I think ill just spend the time/money I would on an MMO and use it on console gaming and the occasional PC game, i may re-sub to WAR but I doubt it.

From a business point of view, I think they've shot themselves in the foot somewhat.
With 6 weeks to go until release, they have released approximately zero publicity or advertising.
Sure, let the fans hype it for you - but that cannot and should not be the only form of advertising.

6 weeks prior to release - there should be an open public beta, interviews with leading game sites and magazines, more trailers, more gameplay footage, proper details of game mechanics etc etc

They don't even have a schedule for North American release as yet.

I believe they've gone about it all the wrong way and may regret it.
